Beef & Shiitake Mushroom
100% Ground Beef
THE MIGHTY SHIITAKE
Not all mushrooms are created equal. Shiitake mushrooms are one of the most abundant natural sources of umami. More than any other culinary mushroom and probably any other ingredient in the world!
They contain extremely high levels of glutamates and guanylate — two powerful umami compounds that make them the dynamic duo of deliciousness.
That’s why chefs have relied on them for centuries to build deep, rich, rounded flavor.
When shiitake meets beef, something extraordinary happens.
It doesn’t just add flavor, it skyrockets and unlocks a deeper savory taste that beef alone could never reach.
— Enter Beef & Shiitake Mushrooms —
Each bite delivers the signature taste and succulence of beef, enhanced by the earthy savoriness of shiitake for a lingering flavor experience.
It’s simply beef, reimagined by mushrooms.
SPAGHETTI MEATBALLS
Nothing beats a comforting bowl of Spaghetti Meatballs when it comes to family dinner. A familiar classic everyone knows, elevated with a rich umami that makes every bite feel a little more special.
INGREDIENTS
1 pack Fable Shiitake-Infused Beef Meatballs
400g (14oz) spaghetti
2 cups marinara sauce (homemade or high-quality store-bought)
2 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
2 tbsp olive oil
¼ cup grated Parmesan or Pecorino
Fresh basil, torn apart
Salt & black pepper, to taste
METHOD
Bring a large pot of salted water to boil. Add spaghetti and cook until al dente. Reserve ½ cup pasta water, then drain.
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add Fable Shiitake Infused Beef Meatballs and sear for 6–8 mins, turning until browned.
Add garlic to the pan and cook 1 minute until fragrant. Pour in marinara, adding splashes of pasta water if needed. Simmer 5–8 minutes until meatballs are heated through and sauce coats them beautifully.
Toss spaghetti through the sauce or plate pasta and spoon meatballs over the top. Season with S&P to taste. Finish with grated cheese and fresh basil.
THE FIFTH SENSE: WHAT IS UMAMI?
Sweet, sour, salty, and bitter have long been the cornerstones of flavor, but there’s a fifth taste that elevates dishes from good to unforgettable: umami.
But how is this unique and different from simply being savory?
